If you are after font-smoothing, then sIFR is a good program. Flash has even wider browser support than a java applet.

what I need to to take some text like today is the day

And have the browser show it as an image jpg or gif oe whatever

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 19:24:34ID: 25487926

Sounds like you need server-side code for something like that. Why do you need the text to be shone by image? So they can right click and click save as?

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 19:26:26ID: 25487930

No... I have some clients that advertise. Thir data in on a database and I need thei data shown as an image. And I am not about to create 500 jpg files

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 19:36:45ID: 25487953

My question is, why does it need to be shown as an image? With basic HTML you can specify the font, color, bold or unbold, italicized or unitalicized,

I have attached some HTML code which demonstrates stylized text.

<div style="font-family: Fantasy; font-size: 50px; color: red;">This is stylized text</div>

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 19:46:03ID: 25487977

And I do not want them to download the database inko going into the source code

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 19:52:18ID: 25487985

So this is for a basic website? And you want to show text on the screen with a special color and font from a database?

I am certainly confused, any more explanation, particularly as to why you want to use an applet would help me

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 19:55:19ID: 25487990

Maybe an applet wont hel.

I need the data form the database appear and that going to the source code will not show the database data just an image that shows the data as an jpg or gif file.

That way users cannot download the database .

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 19:58:51ID: 25487998

So you have a database that you want to show on you website? but you don't want them to be able to download it?

You were wanting to show the data as images to prevent the users copying and pasting the database?

Is this right?

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 20:03:15ID: 25488007

Exactly

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 20:13:29ID: 25488017

Well from the moment a user see's something on their screen, they can then save the information, no matter what anybody does to try and prevent it. There is practically no way to stop it. You can certainly make it harder for the user to save information they see in their browser.

Through the "print screen" key on the users keyboard, or through a plethora of screen capturing programs, the user could save whatever their browser shows them to the computer.

Here's some examples of screen capturing techniques

http://www.seoconsultants.com/windows/print-screen/
http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp
http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/general/ht/winscreenshot.htm

Of course, the user could also use a pen and paper and write down the information as well.

If you are worried about the user getting and saving data that is not being seen on the webpage, that is a completely different matter.

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 20:17:55ID: 25488020

I understand

What I need is a way for visitors cannot automate the process of getting the data.Ifthe souce code has the data it can easiey be done.  If they choose to capture the screen or cioy with a prn and paper that is fine

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 20:21:24ID: 25488026

That makes sense, well, now were back to how to get your data to show as images. Really, for this security kind of stuff, you should use a server-side code (such as ASP, JSP, PHP ...). Does your server support server-side code? What code do you use the most?

by: robrodpPosted on 2009-10-03 at 20:23:38ID: 25488031

I use asp and I am sure I can use server side code

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 20:36:53ID: 25488049

I would make an ASP script to take the data you have a produce an image.

http://www.asp101.com/articles/john/textimage/default.asp

An applet could work as well, i'll keep looking to see if i can find anything.

I need asp not asp.net. That is why I started with the applet approach.

by: Thomas4019Posted on 2009-10-03 at 21:11:49ID: 25488100

Does the applet need to be able to show multiple lines? What is some typical text you would want the applet to show.
