Browse All TopicsHi,
I have created an integer array which is shared by two threads. I want to demonstrate that the the threads are operating only in their portion of the shared array.
I'm trying to do this by populating the array by a set of integers then running the threads which then randomly shuffle their portions of the array.
I have populated the array , run the threads but would appreciate some guidance on the actual random sorting.
attached is my code and output
thanks,

Might need to look a little closer, but appears issue may be here.
oundsExcep tion
for (int j = a; j<b; j++)
{
x = f[j];
f[j] = f[x+1];
}
You are setting x to the integer value of the array (not the index). Then using that value +1 as the index to match with. Hence this error:
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfB
In addition, you are swapping anything. You can shuffle in different ways using Collections API, but using the approach you have here it should be:
x = f[j]; // save current value
f[j] = f[j+1]; // change current value using next index
f[j+1] = x; // set next index value to saved value to finish swap
