Accessing windows registry from Java (Not VJ++)

Hello ,
I would like to know if there is a way i can access the registry of winNT , 95 and 98 from Java.Becos i wnat to know different applications installed on the machine .. and other parameters of the OS ..Are there any tools or class libs available .. I will not be using VJ++ , I will be using Pure java from sun ..
