Finding MS Windows directory

I am trying to find out what the Windows directory on the system is (C:\windows, C:\winnt and so on).

I essentially need the contents of the WINDIR environment variable.

I don't want to use System.getenv() because it is deprecated.

I tried using SystemGetProperty("user.home") and works most of the time but on one of my clients that uses NT got this directory: E:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator
so this is not if you are using a machine with multiple profiles.

I cannot use com.ms.GetSystemDirectory() because I am not using MJ++. And neither is most of the users of my library.

I would rather not make JNI calls to a DLL that does the job, because I am placing the DLLs in the C:\windows\system to make sure that the native runtime of Visual Cafe 4.0 still can find it (due to an internal bug) - so I am using the directory to access some DLLs in the c:\windows\system dir.

Any suggestions?
