Writing to a text file on the server from an applet

I want to write a string to a text file on the server from my applet. The text file is located in the same directory as my applet to avoid any security exceptions.
I use the following code to try to get an output stream to that file:

String file = "test.txt";
java.net.URL u = new java.net.URL(this.getCodeBase(), file);
java.net.URLConnection c = u.openConnection(); OutputStream os = s.getOutputStream();

However, this code gives me a "UnknownServiceException".

How can I avoid this kind of exception in order to be able to write to file on the server?
