The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Problem with connecting to Oracle Driver

Hi All,

I've faced such a scenario below.

1. I've created a created a class file which will connected to an Oracle DB. I've compiled it and run
at the DOS prompt, it's running alright and I'm able to execute SQL queries.

2. However, when I made it into a bean form and using a JSP to call the bean for DB connection, I'm
unable to do so. I'm kept receiving error stating : ClassNotFoundException : oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

3. Hence, I decided to make DB connection directly in my JSP and do away with the Bean. Likewise, error
occurs at the part where I called for the driver : Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();

The same error as described in (2) was output to the browser. Can anyone out there give me some advises.
I've set up my JAVA_HOME path, CLASSPATH, PATH and CATALINA_HOME. Do I need to unzip the files from
oracle\ora81\jdbc\lib\classes111.zip or \classes12.zip?
By the way, I'm using Tomcat for my development. Is there any setting that I've missed out?
