 I am not sure if you can do it since CLOB data type is different than the String data type and you cannot cast one data type to the data type of the other. What you can do is to put a String in the CLOB object using the method putString(long, String).

 It is in oracle.sql.CLOB class. Maybe you are using and older API.

Hi,

   try this :

...
...

ResultSet rs = stat.executeQuery( query );

Clob clob = rs.getClob();
String data = new String();

if ( clob != null )
{
   long myLong = 1;
   data = clob.getSubString( myLong, new Long(clob.length()).intValue() );
}

...
...

Note: Clob class is developed since jdk1.2
