"Q: Provide some information about connection pooling, such as stale connections.
A: Stale connections are those connections which for some reason can no longer be used. This can happen, for example, if the database server is momentarily shut down or if the network is experiencing problems. In all of these cases, the connections are no longer usable by the application and the connection pool needs to be flushed and rebuilt. This type of support was added in WebSphere 3.5.2, and is improved in WebSphere 4.0. More vendor-specific error codes have been added to the mapping that result in a StaleConnectionException. In addition, whenever a StaleConnectionException is thrown by WebSphere, the entire pool of connections will be destroyed."
