Question

Runtime with a command having embedded quotes (").

I am running Java on an AIX machine and, I am using Runtime for a lot of AIX commands successfully. The only time is fails is when I have a command with embedded quotes ("). I print out the command that should be sent and it looks correct. In fact if I select the string as it is printed and copy and execute it. I works fine. How can I send a command with embedded quouts and have it work correctly?

Try it thus instead

String[] command = { "x", "y", "z" };
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);

Try esacping the quote:

"\"i am quoted\""

My Code:

command="pdpr -d "+PrinterSelectedLogical;
command=command + " -x \"form-definition=F1A10110\" ";
command=command + "data/" + TestCasesSelected[i];
System.out.println("cmd "+command);
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);

The println command shows:

pdpr -d pName -x "form-definition=F1A10110" data/tName

When I key in the above line directly to AIX it works fine.

Have you tried it without quotes (don't see why they're needed there anyway)?

String command = { "pdpr", "-d", "", "-x", "form-definition=F1A10110", "data/tName" };
command[2] = PrinterSelectedLogical;
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);

personally in one line is a lot easier to read, and far less prone to error.
Saves you having to go thru counting parameters.
