Browse All TopicsThe company I work for has just been taken over by another company. The other company does not use MS technologies, they specialise in Documentum and use Java for development. I am going to have to re-skill in Java (oh boy!), anyway I dont really know anything about Java, what applications do I need to begin developing in Java? what do most people use?
Does documentum have its own java development environment?
If there are any Documentum developers out there, I would really appreciate your advice as the best way forward. I will only be developing web enabled applications.
Thanks

The web application servers that Documentum uses are J2EE ones, so you must code in Java.
Eclipse is a pretty good interfae to use, and in Documentum's developers' site (developer.documentum.com)
Another good place to look is www.dmdeveloper.com, however this doesn't seem to be the official Documentum site.
There is also a book you can buy (http://www.amazon.com/Con
which has enough to get you started, but I doubt this is official Documentum material.
I know that Documentum run training classes all over the world, you can check out their schedule at http://mylearn.emc.com/por
This may be a better bet, in that it is the "official" training class by the manufacturer.
As rightly said that dmdeveloper.com has lots of info about documentum.
Documentum runs on J2EE servers such as Weblogic, tomcat, websphere etc.
They have have products like webtop, webpublisher which is based on WDK. WDK is webdevlopment kit. Which is bulit up on DFC. Docutumentum foundation classes.Any doubts you ask me. See my blog at rajaamir.blogspot.com
Hope this help

On the java side of things:

IDEs:
Netbeans (http://www.netbeans.org),
Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org)
or IDEA (http://www.jetbrains.com/
are the big ones
I've not used Documentum, but the API seems to be in Java:
