appears to be a problem with your proxy configuration

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-28 at 22:06:49ID: 20167674

10.4.8 407 Proxy Authentication Required

This code is similar to 401 (Unauthorized), but indicates that the client must first authenticate itself with the proxy. The proxy MUST return a Proxy-Authenticate header field (section 14.33) containing a challenge applicable to the proxy for the requested resource. The client MAY repeat the request with a suitable Proxy-Authorization header field (section 14.34). HTTP access authentication is explained in "HTTP Authentication: Basic and Digest Access Authentication" [43].

works fine from here

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-28 at 22:31:37ID: 20167725

As I said, in one of my application I am having the same problem.
I have installed the application on Windows 2000 server SP4 IIS5, and the application is working in the IE and same I have installed on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2 IIS6 and this application is giving the above mentioned error in IE.

Is this something related to the server configuration?

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-28 at 23:16:58ID: 20167824

installed what application?

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-28 at 23:52:14ID: 20167895

I have an application which is Java applet runs through IIS, access through browser

by: CEHJPosted on 2007-10-29 at 00:07:55ID: 20167924

The error message you posted relates to the Experts Exchange applet - let's stick with that one shall we? (If the same result occurs with the 'real' applet)

Check that your proxy settings are the same as the ones in IE where the applet is working

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-29 at 00:08:33ID: 20167930

compare the proxy configuration of the browser where it is not working to one where it is working

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-29 at 00:14:22ID: 20167939

Both are having same proxy settings and same network. Only difference is server configuration, the one which is working on is Windows 2000 server and the one which is NOT working is on Windows 2003 server.

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-29 at 00:16:21ID: 20167947

your current proxy config is shown at the top of the log:

Proxy Configuration: Manual Configuration
     Proxy: http=proxy1srv:80,https=proxy1srv:80,ftp=proxy1srv:80,gopher=proxy1srv:80
     Proxy Overrides: mbintranet.mashreqbank.com,pkgof*,lbsdr*,132.70.*,mbevault.*,evaultsrv.*,128.1*,172.*,staffonline*,sso.mashreqbank.corp.network,131.5.10.82,<local>

though that response code suggests that the proxy required authentication. So check that is being provided (and check if your admins what the exact setting should be).
May be that the working browsers are not using the proxy, or have provided the appropriate authentication. Comparing the settings will confirm that.

can they both load the EE page?

Is the error the same when you access the applet on your server, or is it getting a different error?

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-29 at 00:44:13ID: 20168002

EE page is giving me the same error. Checked with the admins and they are saying its related to applet file coding/settings in .jar file.

This is the response from my admins:

that apperars to be a different problem though

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-29 at 01:35:26ID: 20168103

the relevant part of the console log to show the admins is:

Server returned HTTP response code: 407 for URL: http://www.experts-exchange.com/xp/applets/ticker.jar

as i mentioned above its related to your proxy settings.
Show the error message I posted above to your admins add see what they can suggest.

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-29 at 05:20:57ID: 20168851

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-29 at 05:34:32ID: 20168926

my application issue has been resolved.

In the IIS6, Directory Security --> Authentication and access control --> EDIT --> I have changed the user name to the domain user name and its working.

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-29 at 14:19:32ID: 20173387

> I have changed the user name to the domain user name and its working.

good to ear that solved the authentication problem you were having.

by: ravi_raj123Posted on 2007-10-30 at 01:37:35ID: 20175333

My application issue is resolved. But EE page is still showing same error.

by: objectsPosted on 2007-10-30 at 01:39:58ID: 20175344

> My application issue is resolved. But EE page is still showing same error.
