Capturing New LIne Characters in RegEx

Tags: Java , Regular expressions, Java
I ve a requirement in which I ve to restrict the users not to enter any 16 digit number in the text area provided. The value entered in the text area will be in a String .
I am using regEx to capture the 16 digit numbers as below

boolean strMatch = str.matches("(.*)(\\s*)(\\d[\\s-]*){16}(\\s)*(.*)");

This is working perfectly ( as this solution was provided by one of Experts )
But there is one small requirement which i missed to mention last time .

Since my source of input is a Text Area. The users can leave a line in between or press Enter button while typing some values in the text area. In such situations, the above regEx is not working properly as we have not defined the new line characters in the regEx.
For Eg.
My String  S = "This is a teting 1111 2222 3333 4444. Please captures this format thanks, kk "
If I enter the above value in my text area, my regex works fine and returns TRUE
but i my String S = This is a teting 1111 2222 3333 4444. Please captures this format
thanks,
kk
In this case my regEx is returning false. Can you please guide me on this.

My String S can have a new line character inbetween thats why i ve mentioned "thanks" and "kk"  in the next line. Basically my string S is being populated by entering values in a Text Area.
