There are actually more than one way of doing it.

Since you want to store the values in the map defined by you, SAX Parser is best bet for you.

This is what you need to do in the digester.parse function
1. Parse XML file (Asuming using DOM)
dom = db.parse("yourfile.xml");
2. From parseDocument() function get <name>, <menu_id>, <access> for each <Asset>
You might want to change Asset class to
public class Asset {
private String name;
private String menuId;
private String access;
public Asset(String name, String menuId, String access)
{
this.name = name;
this.menuId= menuId;
this.access= access;
}
// the rest
}
then add each "Asset" to "Assets" [using Assets.addAsset()]
