Running different java JRE version for internet explorer

I'm on Windows XP and I have a website I connect to that uses JRE 1.4.2_06. I am also needing to upgrade to the latest version of Java (currently version 6 update 13), problem is when I install the version 6 update 13, the website that uses JRE 1.4.2_06 no longer works. I tried looking in Internet Explorer advanced options to select a different version, but the only one there is the java 6 one. My JRE 1.4.2_06 still appears to be in the c:\program files\java folder and in the Add/Remove programs, but how on earth can I specify that version for just the one particular website that relies on it?

garryshape--This should work.  Reinstall JRE 1.4.2_06.  It should then appear on the IE Advanced tab.  You can switch back and forth as needed between the two versions.

The links helped in leading to a solution that is actually different, the server changed to point to the older version which took care of my issue.

In java plugin control panel add 1.4 directory to 1.6 plugin.

gheist's suggestion seems a good one, which then should put both versions in the IE Tools Advanced tab.

are you having problem about launch applet on ie after updated client's jre?
if yes, What's your ie version? could you please html code about applet tag/object tag?

Install 1.3 latest 1.4 latest 1.5 latest without plugins.
Then install 1.6 plugin and do setup for all historical versions.

I personally thought gheist's suggestion, Post #ID: 24554359, was more elegant (though the version numbers seem a little incorrect), but that was posted after garryshape seemed to be satisfied.

I would agree with you.
I am not running unsupported versions though rt.jar files are still around just in case of facing next picky embedded website. Normally firmware upgrade after reporting this bug to vendor is complete solution.
