How else can I get an initial Web Start program up?

I am new to Webstart, not to java.
I have tried many examples from Googled webstart examples, but none work for me.
I think I would benefit best from seeing step by step examples, of all aspects.
e.g. for a simple "Hello World" site,
the jnlp code , the java code, the XML
Also, how must I JAR the file in Eclipse? Any possible snags to be aware of?
I have web space in a godaddy site. Do I put it all in the same folder, , must I state in the XML where to find the resources? How? Will it be three separate files?

You need to register, but I believe it's free
Do other webstart apps work though? I am wondering if none of the webstart examples work (for some reason you don't explain) then maybe your java install is wrong?
