Question

Send Hex To printer Java

Asked by: Pyromanci

I am still some what new to java. I have been looking and looking for a way to simply send the <BEL> hex code (0x07) to a printer from a java application.

When i read the documentation on the printer. I can open the command line window and type

echo ^G > LPT1

Where ^G is really control+g (the <bel> hex code 0x07) So really i just need to send 0x07 to my LTP1 is there a really simple way of doing this in java?

Does the solution need to be platform independent? If not, then on windows you can use the attached method.
Just call sendGToLPT1();

public static void sendGToLPT1()throws IOException
{
    File temp=new File("temp.bat");
    BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(temp));
    out.write("echo ^G > LPT1");
    out.close();
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("temp.bat");
    temp.delete();
}

You might try simply:

OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("LPT1:");
out.write(7);
out.close();

InteractiveMind for now it's just windows.  the bat file is a nice idea, but sadly the ^G end up as text and not a hex command.
CEHJ that worked perfectly.

Oh, neat solution, CEHJ.

There's not much point now, but I think if you made the ^G a ^^G in my code, then that would work.
