Hello,
I have Visio 2003 UML activity diagrams. I want to get this diagrams into any modeling tool for design/development purposes.
This requires exporting UML data out from Visio using add-on XMI export and importing exported data into modeling tool.
Thing is, Visio (2003/2007) exports UML data in XMI 1.0 version ONLY and all known modeling tools accepts XMI 1.3 or above (tried on all trial versions)
There can be few way outs (?)
1-Find modeling tool that accepts XMI 1.0
2-Upgrade XMI 1.0 to higher version
3-Write code for reading Visio UML elements
I searched high and low through clouds, Experts Exchange, talked to UML gurus but no luck!!
Will much appreciate any help!

Here is another tool, but I have not used it:
Enterprise Architect supports the XMI 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1 specifications, but does not fully support the older 1.0 specification. When importing or exporting to XMI 1.0, some loss of data occurs due to the limitations of XMI 1.0

ArgoUML is a very nice free tool:
ArgoUML uses this as standard saving mechanism so that easy interchange with other tools and compliance with open standards are secured. Additionally, exporting the model to XMI is possible. XMI version 1.0 was used for UML 1.3. ArgoUML 0.20 imports XMI 1.0 (by converting UML 1.3 to UML 1.4). And ArgoUML imports the UML1.4 formats XMI 1.1 & 1.2, but only writes XMI 1.2.

Thanks all for attempt, but solution is still not found. Below is updates
-MagicDraw 10.0 is nowhere to find
-Enterprise Architect fails to import XMI 1.0 file giving errors that even their support team can't help with!
-ArgoUML too fails to load the file, the error was reported on their support site two weeks back but no response yet

MagicDraw UML is a very nice commercial product. It has a community edition and also a trial period. This is from their site:
Up to MagicDraw 10.0 version, XMI v1.0, v.1.1 and v1.2 load, save and import is supported.
Beginning with MagicDraw 10.0 XMI 2.1 is supported. And only model load from XMI 1.0 - 1.2.
