The information is probably all there - you need to adjust Rose's options to show the details you want to see. Also, be aware that you will have to make the diagrams look as you want - XMI does not carry over exact locations (i.e. you may have to move things around).
Try opening some of the objects to see if you descriptions, methods, attributes, ... are all there. If the relationships make it over (I don't know how good StarUML does in its exports), Rose will show the relationships.
it is possible that the two tools use different versions of XMI. You can try this:

Use File > Export > XMI from StarUML. Then import the XMI into Rose.
And BTW, a free UML tool that is better IMO than StarUML is ArgoUML - more capabilities, better quality.
