SQL Parsing in Richtextbox

I currently have setup a way to automatically color code SQL words in a richtextbox everytime the user types a key using regular expressions. I am sending a message to stop painting the richtextbox control while SQL words are color coded and then to start painting again when all the words have been colored.

The problem I'm having is there is a lag when I'm typing due to my code constantly executing as I type. In other words, the words I type do not display as fast as I type. Any suggestions on what I can do to speed the code execution so there is not a lag?

I've tried having it only color code the current line the cursor is on. That didn't work. Now I did read about a sqlparse.dll I can add reference to which would automatically produce the rich text color codes. I thought incorporating this would fix the lag because it would parse a query much faster than my code does. I tried to register the dll and reference it from my .NET project but I got errors that it could not be registered nor could I add a reference to it. I imagine the reason for this is because it is only compliant to visual basic 6.0 from what I read. Does anyone know if there is a similar dll available for .NET?
