Delphi 7 :: MS SQL 2005 Express :: AutoIncrement Field Problem

Hi Experts,

I have created a demo db and table in SQL 2005 Express for testing purposes.
My primary key field is set to a 'uniqueidentifier' data type.

Will this field auto increment on each insert?
I am using Delph 7, ADO Components and TDBGrid to insert data for testing.
On inserting a new row I receives the error message telling me that I can not insert VALUE NULL into column DemoID.

How do you manage auto increment fields in Delphi 7, SQL 2005 Express and ADO.

No, unique identifiers  wont increment, instead it will generate some Unique values

if you are looking for auto incrementing values, then you need to declare the datatype like this    datatype int identity
eg: create table AutoIncTest (i int identity, Nam varchar(100) )

in order to get the last nserted auto increment value, run this statament immediatly after the insert statement

SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()

But in the Server Management Studio there is no data type like "int identifier" in the drop down.
Does not look like such data type exists.

if you are using the graphical mode, you need to select the Datatype as int  and from the bottom pane (Column properties )  you need to enable the "IS IDENTITY" property

Ok, I have it sorted.
Need to set IsIdentity = Yes
and then specify the auto increment values.
