Delphi compiled CGI executable programs do not run in IIS7

Asked by chemwatch in Microsoft IIS Web Server, Internet and Delphi Programming, WebApplications

Tags: delphi, cgi, iis7

I use Delphi 2006 compiler in Windows OS to create web server applications (of type CGI stand alone executable) which are .exe files. So far they have run OK up to IIS version 6. But none of them would run in IIS7. I have tried in both Vista 32 bit and Longhorn 64 bit OS without any suscess. I get the error "HTTP error 502.2 - Bad gateway, the specified CGI application did not return a complete set of HTTP headers". Is anyone there can help me?Start Free Trial

in your borwser go to Tools/Advanced Options and make sure that the display friendly error messages is disabled.  This might provide more insite as to what the exact problem is.

On another note ... does the code work under IIS 6 using IE 6?  or did you upgrade both the server and browser at the same time.  Your questions makes it sound like it has never worked under IIS 6.  If so, then we need to address the IIS side of things, if the code works on IIS 6 with an older version of the browser then this would focus the problem to IE7.

It runs fine under IIS6, it works fine with IE6 and IE7, both of which we have been using for months.  Now we are extending to IIS7

Sorry ... I didn't catch that you were referring to IIS 7 and responded thinking the problem was IE 7 ... let me see what I can find out.

Check your mime types in the web site you are running this from ... this is similar to problems I have had under IIS 6.
Take a look at your IIS 6 installation and check your mime type with the call types and path/executable for the extension being requested and make sure they all match in IIS 7.

Hi cj_1969, thanks for your comment. I have allowed the necessary server extension (CGI and ISAPI) and scripts and executables from the virtual directory by the steps which I had to do in order to make it work in IIS 6. I can tell that I did all the right things in IIS 7 because I have got a cgidump.exe which runs OK in IIS 7. This .exe was compiled a long time ago by using the CGI Expert component ( http://www.cgiexpert.com/ ) for Delphi, but alas they don't support Delphi after version 6 and we also don't intend to use it any more as it is not a native Delphi component like the WebBroker which we use of Delphi.

Has any one got any more ideas?

I have the same problem that chemwatch had. Do you have a real soloution of the problem of running CGI applications compiled by Delphi under IIS7?
