BTW, in ESC-P (one of the languages supported by the Oki dot matrix printers), 10 cpi is selected by Esc P. In other words, enter it as <1B>P in the driver.

I want to keep the letter printer but use an oki data turbo printer in 17 cpi mode. So I want to go to properties on the Generic Text Only printer driver and set it up so it returns 17 cpi instead of 10 cpi when I open the printer and ask for hte line width. I am running Delphi 4 and cannot seem to change the line with inside the program.

The Generic Text Only printer driver lets you change a number of printer settings, such as cpi, underlining and bold. If you go to Properties and click on the Font Selection tab, you'll see the various pssibilities there. You do need to insert your own printer commands. Note that control characters such as Esc have to be inserted by their hex equivalent. For example Esc is entered as <1B> (including the <>).
Then, if the application requests 10 cpi, those commands will be sent to the printer.
On most printers it is also possible to set the default cpi.
