The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Printer Canvas Scaling And Resolution

I'm trying to generate reports using D3 Standard using direct tprinter.canvas functions. Things are going okay when I send to my own HP Deskjet 870 (which is 300dpi).

However, I need to be able to 'scale' my output to different paper sizes, including scaling canvas.font to suit. This I can do no problem using the relationship between PageWidths of the varying paper sizes. But, when I try the same methods on the QMS magicolor at work which is capable of 1200dpi on A3 paper, things go completely to pot.

I've realised that the only way to find the canvas resolution is to read the canvas.font.pixelsperinch property. But now it gets funny because Windows/Delphi/Printer auto scales the fonts for the resolution, but doesn't scale the position on the page. So, what is the best way to generate the maths in my canvas writing methods and properties to:

1. Reposition proportionally, objects on differing papersizes.
2. Scale down fonts to suit, eg. 16pt on A4, 8 pt on A6
3. Tie all this back to allow for printer resolution.

Things to bear in mind are:

1. X/Y axis positioning relies on canvas width/height in pixels only.
2. Fonts auto scale (which needs overriding) relying on both canvas width/height AND resolution
3. graphic positioning relies on  canvas width/height in pixels only.
4. graphic sizing relies on resolution only.

It seems more confusing than it probably is but I'm in serious need of help. My reports consist of Text, Canvas vector graphics and copies of form TImage canvases which all need to go on the same page.

Someone may suggest that I use the QuickReport engines but since none of the information is database related, It's probably easier writing to printer canvas directly. I also need to generate all this stuff in color.
