another DELPHI beginner

lots of questions

1) Do I have to shell out lot of money to buy delphi programming kit? is there a freeware developer release available? since I wont be using it commercially and I will be using only for learning for the next few months and I will of course buy some kit when I start programming commercially...

2)Can delphi be entirely written by hand ? i.e like ASP or PERL scripting.. even though there are GUI forms and stuff like that still using a plain old notepad programs can be written ..Is it possible in Delphi

3)Can Delphi be used in WEB ? if so how many webservers in the world support it ?

4)where can I learn more about delphi beginner stuff ?

5) Is the learning curve too steep ?Is delphi a better choice for creating gui windows applications compared to Visual Basic etc ..What are the advantages of delphi ?

Basically Im a PERL , ASP , JSP programmmer ...
