Allow Zero Length in MDB

Here is a good one :-)
To perform a backup procedure during system use our app performs a select into to create a duplicate without exclusive locks required (Networked app). The situation we currently have is that the select into does not take all of the field settings across with it, ie allow zero length etc etc.
We have one field in perticular that requires zero length set to true. Problem is that the default is false.
Question:
How can we perform an update on fieldx to set its Allow Zero Length to be switched to true?
