without any external files ... you can use ACM or DirectShow
good ACM components are deAudio compos from www.droopyeyes.com - commercial
you can use DirectShow (DirectX) .. a set of components for DS is DSPack - free .. with many examples and a support forum
I personaly recommend DirectShow

also check out DSMix .. an demo application for playing multiple files simultaneously using DirectShow - http://www.delphipages.com/result.cfm?ID=3893

if you don't mind an extra dll then you can choose from fmod, bass, ...
fmod - www.fmod.org
bass was mentioned by DragonSlayer earlier :)

I don't mind putting a DLL in my applications directory (if it's not too big), but I cannot install it (copy to Windows directory etc). Can I access this DLL directly from my Delphi application?

by: DragonSlayerPosted on 2004-02-25 at 20:16:26ID: 10457052

You do not have to put the DLL in the Windows folder. You can put it in your application's folder instead.

by: Lee_NoverPosted on 2004-02-25 at 23:20:17ID: 10457886

yes you can .. and it's prefered that way
all non-shared dlls should go in your apps bin directory
bass.dll and fmod.dll are about 100kb .. compared to your delphi exe it'll be hardly noticeable :)

by: slaviknPosted on 2004-02-26 at 00:30:21ID: 10458194

Ok. Thank you very much guys.
I will check these DLLs out on Saturday.

Hi again,

I see that ALL of them are comercial...  :-(
Also, I couldn't run even one of them - when app is started, I get an error and the CPU-Window.

by: Lee_NoverPosted on 2004-03-01 at 12:51:45ID: 10489624

they're free for noncommercial

by: Lee_NoverPosted on 2005-02-02 at 23:41:39ID: 13211440

sorry .. I was addressing slavikn .. he probably hasn't even checked DS

by: slaviknPosted on 2005-02-03 at 02:14:06ID: 13212412

First of all, I did try every suggested link.
Secondly, I can try again, but this is after my exams are finished (i.e. I'll check 'em in the beginning of next month).
By then, please don't close/PAQ the question.

Today I started to check DSMixAdvanced and FMOD.
Please give me a week's time.
And if one of them works, you can add 500 more points to the correct answer
(I am not allowed to give more than 500 in your forum's interface).

by: slaviknPosted on 2005-10-01 at 01:57:35ID: 14997983

Accepted FMOD.
Thank you.

by: slaviknPosted on 2005-10-06 at 00:46:39ID: 15028602

Sorry DragonSlayer.
Eventually I switched to BASS.DLL (because of technical things).
(Though FMOD works aswell, BASS.DLL gave me the option to change volume.)
Will contact the moderators to split points - 50/50 - between Lee_Nover and DragonSlayer.
