Question

TRegistry.LoadKey to load a hive?

I'm trying to use TRegistry.LoadKey to load a Windows registry hive. There's not much in the way of help on this in the Delphi docs, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. It does not give me any error message. It just doesn't load the hive.

procedure TForm1.LoadHive;
var
  Registry: TRegistry;

begin
    Registry := TRegistry.Create;
    Registry.RootKey := HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE;
    Registry.LoadKey('TEMPHIVE','c:\temp\temphive');
    Registry.Free;
end;

Hi,

LoadKey is a function returning a boolean value. Check its result. Several reasons for a fail are possible:

1. Security issues - your account doesn't have enough privileges to write to HKLM.
2. Security again - your account needs backup and restore privileges to execute that function.
3. The subkey TEMPHIVE must exist beforehand.
