The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

Delphi 7 compiler not binding libraries to standalone executable - why ?

Hello
  I am compiling a program with Delphi 7. I require this to be standalone (I can accept the increase in file size), so it is definitely compiled with "Build with runtime packages" UNchecked. (BTW. Playing with this setting appears to do what it should, in that when checked, I get a smaller exe because I would have to distribute the necessary BPLs separately and UNchecked is a larger exe). So the compiler seems to be taking notice but ...
  Installing to a 'virgin' system brings up that seemingly all too common message that the exe can't locate 'rtl70.bpl'. Obviously something extra IS being linked to my exe but not the correct or total standalone requirement. With a bit of detective work I discovered ELEVEN BPL(DLL) dependencies were missing ! I registered all of these on my test system and my program ran just fine. So why isn't the compiler incorporating these requirements ?
  I have a clue but I don't know how to deal with it. Most of my code was written back in Delphi 4. When I moved to 7 , in this case, I moved the code over and started rejigging it and it now bears no resemblance to the original. It seems though that somewhere, perhaps within a configuration file or whatever, it may not have all the required compiler information but analysing these files as best I can yields no further clues. Anyone please ?
