Telling people you developed the software in Delphi

if they want to reverse engineer/decompile/etc your application they will do it no matter what you don't tell them :)

sure, if they know what development tools were used, it's easier for them as they don't need to figure it out. but nay person who has minor knowledge about decompiling can in worse case try a few decompilers and he might get lucky and use one for delphi.

bottom line,
- if the guy you don't want to tell knows a little bit about decompiling/reverse engineering/etc, he will be able to use his knowledge no matter if you tell him or not the language/development tools/etc.
- on the otehr hand, if that guy is completly lost when it comes to this topic, you will do him a great "favor" by telling him what you used to develop the application because otherwise he will spend a great deal of time trying to figure that out.

but make no mistake, once somebody knows the development tool/language, they can just use any decompiler out there that supports it. and finding this information out is very very easy. you don't even need specialized tools, just to know what and where to look for (a file viewer is sufficient)

but again, knowing the language and dev tool can mean zero, if you used code compression/encryption (like upx, etc). there is no decompiler out there capable of decompiling an ecrypted/compressed executable. they will first need to uncompress/decrypt it ;)

in my opinion, you shouldn't fear releasign that information. and if you want to really secure your application, then use some professional tools for the job, including exe packer/encrypter
