Delphi Read Write Edit an Excel document

I would like to be able to edit Cell B,8 in an excel document without actually opening the document in windows.

I haven't found a suitable solution without use of third party components.

I have TExcelApplication available to use but there is not a whole lot of documentation online that I can find.

Please Help.

ExcelWorksheet1.Cells.Item[2,8].Value := 125;

this will modify the value of the cell B8 in the sheet with the value 125 .. B8 (column 2, Line 8)

You will have to open the document on some level.

If you access the spreadsheet through a database connection (DAO or ADO), the database engine is opening the spreadsheet.  If you use OLE automation, the instantiated object is opening the file.  If you use a third party component to do the update, that software must open the workbook file (.XLS) in order to update it.

NOTE: Some methods require the runtime PC to have Excel installed, usually part of MS-Office installation.
