I'm using a TClientDataset to store temporary data in memory.
The table is not too big, just like 30 rows.
But this rows are updated with information every few seconds.
As the time goes, after some 5-10 minutos the memory consumption of my application grows, as I see it in the Task Manager.
Also, all the operations for updating the data on the TClientDataSet starts to consume more and more time on each run.
I assume this is because the TClientDataSet is accumulating the updates... as it is it intended use... but I don't want that. I just want the latest fresh data always, so I don't consume memory and CPU.
How do I keep the TClientDataSet from growing in memory?
How do I tell the TClientDataSet to keep only the lastest changes?

Is it not easier just to use a in memory object which keep track of all your data?
If you need to save the last state before you end the application you can still use a clientdataset or something like that to stream your data to the harddisk and read it back when you start the application.
Sometimes databases are not the best solution.

What about using something like SQL Server Express as a local database and either keeping the data in the database or periodically applying the updates to the database?

On the other hand, sometimes actually using a database is the best solution. ;-)
For this specific task, I rather prefer not to use a database.
Temporarly I switched to SQLMemTable from Aid Aim, and seems to work pretty good.
