Question

TVision Question!!

Asked by: nadt

I am relatively newbee to OOP.  I want to creat the enviroment that has menubars,fullfledge editor,dialog boxes... Now I have started with pascal.  Here is the Problem:-
I first created an object type Environment=(object)Tapplication.  I created menubars successfully.  But the problem is that the menubars work only when I call method Tapplication.Run.  And when I call this Method I cannot execute any other method until I press Alt-X.  And when I do that the environment ends.  So I tried to device my own Event handler but the as you know I have to override Tapplication's event handler.  and when I do that the statements lying ahead of this statement (Tapplication.HanleEvent(Event)) do not execute until I press Alt-x.  So what should I do so as to get the information about the menu activated; in the TEvent-type-of object? Thank You.

Hi

You could probably create an "idle" procedure/function. An idle function/procedure is something I have used when I t.ex want the clock to appear on the status bar. You could probably put in some functions there. Look up the help and search for it.

Batalf

Will you please be more specific about what idle procedure means?  How to call such a method? Let me be very specific about my question first.  Try this simple code and try to get info abt the mouse in following code.
MyApplication:(object)Tapplication;
begin
      MyApplication.init;
      MyApplication.run;
      MyApplication.done;
end.
now between MyApplication.run and MyApplication.init call a method which will override Tapplication.Handleevent and give me complete information about the mouse posion in the TEvent structure format.  All right?  Thank you.

If it is a small program then why don't you just paste it over here?  As you can see not only you but many people who try to tackle this questions may get it and I'll loose my privacy.  So sorry I cannot give you my mail address.

           What happened to you?  Why don't you paste the idle procedure?  Am I sluggish in responce?

Sorry about late respond. The procedure will come soon. I have it on my PC at home and I haven't been able to use for at couple of days.

Sorry that I'm wery late. I had to find the old Pascal-code from som diskettes. But as far as I can remember the procedure is like this :

First you have to define the Idle procedure as a part
of the main-application, like this :

TDemoApp = Object(TApplication)
  ....
  procedure idle;Virtual;
  ....
  ....
end;

Then I put the code I want into a idle procedure. The example below is code for a clock which I putted into the statusbar in my application :

Procedure DemoApp.Idle;
begin
  inherited Idle;
  Clock^.Update; {replace this line with your code}
end;

I guess that you can put the code you want where I putted my code Clock^.Update.

I hope this can help you

Regards
Batalf
