Browse All TopicsI have an application developed in TP7 which uses the Genus Microprograming tools to display GIF files. The graphics are not display correctly when using a video card with the SIS chipset.
1) I've been searching for the Genus Microprograming web page but no luck. Are they still in business?
2) Is there another utility out there that I can use to display GIF files (640x480x256)on the SIS chipset?
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

dbrunton,
How do I update the BGI unit to handle 640x480x256? I could not find any functions to load a 640x480x256 gif image from the that link.
GuanoFUn,
I could not get ted's stuff to work. Grr is only a gif info display.
Maybe I need to have a VESA driver installed? I've tried loading a universal VESA driver since SIS does not provide vesa dos drivers.
I even tried using a different video card (S3) with no luck. I am affraid I am stuck!
rooky, why do u need the gif loader? can't u convert the files to pcx, bmp or other style that can be easely loaded in the 640*480*256 color mode?
there r plenty of pcx loaders that work on almoust all the machines?
if u're interested in somthing like that here's a site w/ pcx loaders:
http://www.devq.net/pascal
i bet that u can probably find a simple gif to pcx converter that u can use as a sumprogram in your own proggy.
I guess I could use bmp files if I could find a gif to bmp converter in DOS (IrfanView is for windows). I haven't been able to find such a converter yet. I found some that handle lower resolutions but not 640x480x256.
I've tried several bmp and pcx loaders with no luck. Again, most of them do not handle 640x480x256 or do not work on the SIS build in video board that I am using.
I guess I'll keep trying.
here's a GIF to BMP converter:

and this looks like a nice bmp loader(i havn't tested it thou):

If you are using TP7 you can use the graphics unit that came with it to display on a wide number of chipsets. You may need to update the BGI graphics unit to handle 640 by 480 by 256.

Here for the BGI unit and there is a link there about displaying GIF images.
