The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

i have a folder /u/test/all-files directory which contain the file "test.zip"

my perl script should

1) unzip test.zip file
2) grep all the files having name "build*.zip" and save it in current directory

10.17.2005 at 08:49AM PDT, ID: 15100533
Are you trying to extract just the files called "build*.zip" from the file "test.zip"?  If so, here:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict;
my $path = "/u/test/all-files/";
my $file = "test.zip";
my $fileroot = "build";  # Begining of Filename
my $extention = "zip"; # filename extention

#### Find the files to be extracted
my @files_raw = split(/\n/,`unzip -l $file`);
my @filenames;
foreach(@files_raw){
        s/ +/ /g;
        s/^ //;
        my($length,$date,$time,$name)=split(/ /,$_);
        if($name =~ m/$fileroot.*\.$extention/i){push(@filenames,$name);}
}

#### Extract them
my $name;
foreach $name(@filenames){
        print `unzip -jo \'$file\' \'$name\' -d \'$path\'`;
}

10.17.2005 at 08:52AM PDT, ID: 15100556
the direcory structure is

/u/test/all-files/test.zip

when i copy test.zip to windows and try to extract it using winzip,
test.zip further has following files

build20.zip
temp.zip
rate.zip
build23.zip
build21.zip
trap.zip

so basically i need to grep all the files which contains "build" in it and save it in current directory

10.17.2005 at 08:55AM PDT, ID: 15100588
Also I have to run the script on windows box as all the zip files are on windows box

10.17.2005 at 09:01AM PDT, ID: 15100631
You have the folder "/u/test/all-files/" in windows?

10.17.2005 at 09:30AM PDT, ID: 15100879
the path is just an example but the files are on windows and i have to write my script on windows using active state perl

10.17.2005 at 09:37AM PDT, ID: 15100941
Ok - here it is for windows, but first you have to make the folder c:\unzip and then download http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/WIN32/unz552xN.exe (the windows version of the standard linux unzip command) and put it in c:\unzip\ then run it (it will unzip a bunch of files in there).
Now that you have command line unzipping capabilities, try this:

use strict;
my $path = "/u/test/all-files/";
my $file = "test.zip";
my $fileroot = "build";  # Begining of Filename
my $extention = "zip"; # filename extention
my $unzip = "C:/unzip/unzip.exe";

#### Find the files to be extracted
my $fullname = $path . $file;
my @files_raw = split(/\n/,`$unzip -l $fullname`);
my @filenames;
foreach(@files_raw){
        s/ +/ /g;
        s/^ //;
        my($length,$date,$time,$name)=split(/ /,$_);
        if($name =~ m/$fileroot.*\.$extention/i){push(@filenames,$name);}
}

#### Extract them
my $name;
foreach $name(@filenames){
        print `$unzip -jo \"$fullname\" \"$name\" -d \"$path\"`;
}
Accepted Solution

will try it and let u know

10.17.2005 at 02:18PM PDT, ID: 15103231
is this the only option to do, or is there any perl module which can do this on fly

10.17.2005 at 02:40PM PDT, ID: 15103361
Well, you can use Archive::Extract ( http://search.cpan.org/~kane/Archive-Extract-0.07/lib/Archive/Extract.pm ) but it requires the "unzip" executable that I have you download in my example.

Or you can use Archive::Zip (http://search.cpan.org/~smpeters/Archive-Zip-1.16/lib/Archive/Zip.pod ) but it requires:
Compress::Zlib ( http://search.cpan.org/~pmqs/Compress-Zlib-2.000_05/Zlib.pm ) which requires:
zlib 1.0.5 or better ( http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/zlib.htm )

This is why I suggested my method

10.17.2005 at 02:41PM PDT, ID: 15103369
Ok. will try and let you know

Thanks

10.17.2005 at 03:21PM PDT, ID: 15103592
how do i manage space on windows

my $path is C:\Documents and Settings\testuser\Desktop

when i run script i get
unzip:  cannot find either C:Documents or C:Documents.zip.

10.17.2005 at 03:28PM PDT, ID: 15103618
i gues i have to use "\\" in path

$path = C:/unzip/project
should be
C://unzip//project

10.17.2005 at 03:41PM PDT, ID: 15103662
1 more thing to me modified, in the command
        print `$unzip -jo \"$fullname\" \"$name\" -d \"$path\"`;

\" is not required

it works without \"  otherwise it gives me error

Thanks

10.17.2005 at 03:42PM PDT, ID: 15103664
after making the above two changes it worked

:-)

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Compress::Zlib is a core module which means it's included in the base install of Perl.  And unless you're using an old version of Perl, the version of zlib should be at least 1.05.  Mine is 1.34 using Perl 5.8.7.

Rather than reling on an external app, I'd use one of the modules that i posted at the begining of this thread and which kamermans later suggested.

I haven't done any testing, but I'm sure that the module would be a clearer and less cumbersum approach.

10.17.2005 at 03:53PM PDT, ID: 15103706
$path = "C:/unzip/project"; should work fine - it does in mine.

To get spaces in filenames / directory names you just need to change:
my @files_raw = split(/\n/,`$unzip -l $fullname`);

To this:
my @files_raw = split(/\n/,`$unzip -l \"$fullname\"`);
