The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Combine checkboxes and radio buttons

Tags: Perl
I'm trying to create a form that would collect data using checkboxes and radio buttons in Perl.  I've finally figured out how to collect them separately but I'm not really sure how to collect the if they're combined in a table.  Just as below:
<FORM>
<TR>
ITEM 1 (input type = "checkbox" name = "check" value="item1")     Large (input type = "radio" name ="radio" value = "large")  Small (input type ="radio" name ="radio" value ="small") </TR>
<TR>
ITEM 2 (input type = "checkbox" name = "check" value="item2")     Large (input type = "radio" name ="radio" value = "large")  Small (input type ="radio" name ="radio" value ="small") </TR>
</FORM>

#This is how I know to collect them separately but not sure how to #combined them:

my @checks = param('check');
foreach (@checks) {
          print "Checkbox ON - VALUE = $_<br>\n";
}

my $radios = param('radio');
print "You picked $radio.<br>\n";

Thank you for your interest, Adam14.  But what I'm trying to do is to collect the data from the HTML form using a perl script.  I'm not sure how I would use param() in perl to collect the input from the checkboxes and radio button that were selected from the HTML form.  I hope I'm explaining this correctly.

For example, if the user selected both items but ITEM1 as LARGE (from the radio button) and ITEM2 as SMALL.  The output would be (after the perl script is called):

You selected 'LARGE ITEM1'
You selected 'SMALL ITEM2'

You will not be able to tell which radio goes with which checkbox if the radio buttons have the same name.  You will have to give them unique names.

Thanks again Adam314...so that means that I have to write this perl script twice then? (like the script below):
my $radio1 = param('radio1');
my $radio2 = param('radio2');
my @checks = param('check');
foreach (@checks) {
          print "You selected $_ . radio1<br>\n";
}

I'm confused now...

my $radios = param('radio1');
print "You selected $radio.<br>\n";

my $check1 = param('check1');
my $radio1 = param('radio1');
if($check1){print "You selected $radio1 $check1\n";}

#Then do the same for $check2 and $radio2...

oh ok...I just thought there was some kind of loop that I could use to go through all the rows in the table and output the result that way...let me try it....i'll be back...Thank you so much again!!!

You could use a loop... but the check and radio buttons still need to have different names on the HTML form.

    my $check=param("check$_");
    my $radio=param("radio$_");
    if($check) {print "You selected $radio $check\n";}
}
