BMP to JPEG conversion in VC++ Project

We are doing project desktop sharing application in VC++. Here the desktop image is in BMP format and we need to convert it to JPEG and compress it and send it. The purpose of that is " when we directly send it as BMP the time for every action while sharing is high and the application is slow. So we hope if we can convert BMP to JPEG and compress it, the size will be lowered and we can get more speed in data transfer. We have done this using win32 API. Hope I have explained the problem. We are in a big urgency to solve this issue. It would be greatly thankful if anyone can help us in this matter.
