Beginner to Matlab, C, C++

I concur with above comments.  Books will probably be your best route.

I actually have extensive experience with the situation you are in.  In fact, just last fall I took a Numerical Methods graduate class and had the learn Matlab on the fly.  In addition, I've pretty much learned VB, C#.NET, ASP.NET, and MS Access on the job over the last five years, all on the fly, and all under time pressure.  Basically, each time I needed to learn a new language/technology quickly, I'd go to Amazon.com and research the best books on the subject by reading the reviews.  I'd then spend lots of evenings working through the books.  You can usually even find used copies of books on Amazon and save $20-$40 a book over the new prices.

I usually go with the books over the website tutorial approach because the books will be well organized (usually) and will be written by an experience developer/writer.  If you have to learn quickly, which it sounds like you do, then web site reliance just isn't efficient enough.  Books will give you a much more cohesive knowledge base on a huge subject like Matlab or c++.  As I said above, I've had to learn everything FAST on the job and books have done the trick.

Your only problem is going to be that learning C++ and Matlab are considerably harder than learning something like VB and MS Access.  You could probably learn enough C++ and Matlab to get by, but learning those two subjects REALLY well takes years.

If you have some money, you could take a class at a local college.  This would actually be better than buying a book (if you have the $ for classes).  I would think that it wouldn't be too hard to find a class on C++ at a local community college, etc.  and you're still in time to sign up for Spring classes.  You might also be able to take a C++ class from some sort of online school (University of Pheonix?)  Finding a class on Matlab is a different story.  I would think you'd be better off learning from books for Matlab just because it's not too easy to find a class "on Matlab".

Here's a few specific things I have done:
I bought the student version of Matlab ($100) and installed it on my laptop.  I worked through the small introductory book that came with the student version to get me started.  Then bought a bigger book called "Mastering Matlab 6" (about $30 used on Amazon) and worked through some of that.  Besides that, just used the Matlab online help, and that gave me enough to do all of my school work.

I took an introductory programming class taught in C++ about 4 years ago.  Gave me the basics of C++ (data types, arrays, pointers, dynamic memory - you'll need to understand all of this to be a c or c++ programmer).

Asked my Numerical Methods professor a lot of questions about Matlab.  That's why taking a class somewhere is so beneficial, because you also get a great resource (a professor).  That helped a bunch.
