The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Which language is best for this program?

Hello,

I have knowledge in HTML, ASP and a little SQL but I want to build a program on my Microsoft Windows server that runs all day long and carries out specific tasks throughout the day. I realise that ASP, HTML and SQL are not going to be much help and want to get started learning a language that will help me to build this program and others like it.

The requirements for the program are shown below.

1. I want the program to communicate with my MS SQL Database.
2. I want it to send out e-mails every X seconds, where I can determine and change the value of X.
3. I want it to be able to connect to another server via TCP.
4. I want it to print out what it is doing as it carries out each task/sends an e-mail.
5. Ideally I would like to open the program from my Windows desktop and see what its doing.
6. Perform all of the above as efficiently and stable as possible.

I regularly use Dreamweaver for all of my HTML/ASP work but I don't think that Dreamweaver is going to be suitable for this because I realise it is for Web Development. I can invest money in software (Ideally less than $300 with a free trial) that has a GUI to help me with the language and would also like some recommendations about the best software to use.

I'm not looking for an answer to immediately solve all of these problems but I would like to hear the views of Experts to point me in the right direction. The points on offer will most likely be split between people that help out the most.
