Delphi 7 :: MS SQL vs Firebird vs The Rest?

Dear Experts,

I am involved with project where we will implement edi messaging software at our local vehicle manufacturers. This is quite a large project and I need to have the best advise on this topic, :).

The current system is developed using MS SQL.
Before we start to develop I would like to get some comparrisons between MS SQL and Firebird.
Please be objective and keep in mind the following (although not limited to this only):
1. Stability
2. Security
3. Speed
4. Maintenance
5. Licensing (I know firebird is free and SQL not.... :) )
6. Limitations - of any nature (please ellaborate on details)
7. etc....
8. etc...
