when i put wild card, system cannot search properly

I have a query where i set student name as wild card
I have student name, student id, age, address as my data field
I have 3 search text box where i can search for
student name(wild card)
student id and
age

My problem now is if i only set 2 search box student id and age i can search.
when i add student name as wild card search i cannot search for student id and age
say i have student id 3 it will still list out all the student id.
