The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How can I get VirtualTreeview data or text from an external application?

Asked by Today77 in Delphi Programming, Windows Programming

Hi Experts!

There is an external application with a VirtualTreeview / TVirtualStringTree descandant (original component: http://www.soft-gems.net/index.php , http://code.google.com/p/virtual-treeview/ ) on it. I haven't got the source code.
This application can load custom dlls, so I can run my code inside the application.
I'd like to get the VirtualTreeview data, but I don't know the data structure, so I think the only solution is to get these data is calling the procedure of the OnGetText event as the application do this when it shows the cell's value.
With the help of FindWindow and EnumChildWindows functions I get the TreeView Handle, and after this I convert it to TWinControl. At this point everything is ok, I can get the control's properties. But when I try to call the OnGetText's procedure I get an error (Access Violation). The result is the same when I try to call the SaveToFile procedure.
The decompiled dfm contains the OnGetText event, but when I check it at runtime it seems not exists (Assigned(OnGetText) is false). What may be its reason?
An other solution may be to create a dll and inject to the application. I don't know there are differences between the first and second possibility (app loads a dll or I inject it) from the viewpoint of the access of components and procedures.
Do you know any other solution to access the text? For example message hooking?

Thanks for your help in advance!
