getdate () syntax

when I am using this syntax:
select * FROM         T_MAIN_REQUESTS
WHERE     DR_sys_dt2 = '2008-01-03 00:00:00.000'
RESULT:1000 records
when I use this syntax
select * FROM         T_MAIN_REQUESTS
WHERE      DR_sys_dt2 = getdate()
RESULT:0 Records

Can you please tell me why getdate function is not working ? when I write getdate() it should also bring the same amount of records which is 1000

I also tried
DECLARE @dt DATETIME
SET @dt = GETDATE()
select * FROM         T_MAIN_REQUESTS
WHERE      DR_sys_dt2 = getdate()

Its not working can you please help me

When you call "getDate()" it will include the current time so your statement will only work for records of that exact second in time, to strip out the time of a getDate() call you need to cast it as follows:

select * FROM T_MAIN_REQUESTS
WHERE DR_sys_dt2 = CAST(FLOOR(CAST(GETDATE() AS FLOAT))AS DATETIME)

I using getdate() in my different SQL syntax in different ways
1.getdate()+7
2.WHERE     (T_Current.FirstDt LIKE GETDATE())
so should I replace getdate() with CAST(FLOOR(CAST(GETDATE() AS FLOAT))AS DATETIME) ??//

Correct, CAST(FLOOR(CAST(GETDATE() AS FLOAT))AS DATETIME)  will just give you the GETDATE() with the time set to midnight.  Thanks for the points.

That error sounds like you are inserting or updating a record in a table with a primary key, not to do with the getdate().
