The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Query to select first of many bit fields

Asked by ericlockshine in SQL Query Syntax, MS SQL Server

Tags: field, bit, query, select

I have a table (Table1) that I need to summarize some data.  The table is outlined as follows:
Table1
ID autonumber
Name varchar(50)
btKey1 bit
btKey2 bit
...
btKey9 bit
[other table information]

Right now we have over 300 unique IDs in the system.  As part of the summary, I need to produce a listing of names for the different keys.  Here is the big rule:
AT MOST, you can have 4 btKeys selected (any from 1 to 9)
I need to determine which ones are selected to summarize the data.  This is going into a separate table outlined here:
Table2
OrderID integer
KeyName1 varchar(4)
KeyName2 varchar(4)
KeyName3 varchar(4)
KeyName4 varchar(4)

Here is my question:  How do I update Table2 with the data from Table1 with the correct names
if btKey1=1 then KeyName1 = 'Name1'
if btKey2=1 and btKey1=0 then KeyName1 = 'Name2'
if btKeyx=1 and all previous keys = 0 then KeyName1 = 'NameX' (and then do it for KeyName2-4)

Basically, I need to take 9 possible items down to 1-4 actual items and put them into a table.  It does not matter what order they are in.

Thanks in advance!
