Use of Case Statement in where clause

Hi all,

I think my question is fairly simple.  I have a stored procedure in MS Sql Server 2000.  I have a select statement in which I am selecting data, and in the where clause I would like to set a condition if the parameter that is being passed in equals 're' then in the where clause I do not need a condition to compare the state field. Otherwise, I want to compare the data for specific state.
This is what I have but I get an error due to the 'in'

where case when @state = 're' then state in ('oh', 'ga', 'va') else state = @state end

I tried using an or statement instead of the in but that did not work.
