The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Recursively copy data in single table using T-SQL

Asked by medicineworker in SQL Query Syntax, MS SQL Server, SQL Server 2005

This is part of a larger solution where I need to create nested cursors to copy data about a site, it's pages, content regions associated with each page, the content of specific regions, and URL mappings for the pages.

I have a content table that looks like this:
PageID (int)
PageTitle (nvarchar(50))
ParentID (int)
SiteID (int)

I need to:
1) Select all rows with a specific Site ID;
2) Copy the data to new rows within the table;
3) Update ParentID to reflect the new PageIDs assigned.

It is for a web-based CMS and the page structure looks like this.

PageID
    -> SubPage (ParentID joined on PageID)
         --> SubSubPage (ParentID joined on PageID)

Having created a bunch of pages, I need to duplicate them quickly, hence using SQL directly instead of using our CMS editor.
I have read about using common table expressions in SQL05 but don't have sufficient experience in SQL to feel confident enough to tackle this without some expert guidance.
I have seen examples that cover recursion to the second level (Page > Sub Page), and recursion of data with two tables, but not nth-level and not in a single self-referencing table.

If anyone can provide me with a sample piece of code for this it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,
