Comparison of AJAX libraries and their pros/cons

I am just getting into AJAX and would like soem feedback on which, if any, libraries can be rcommended and the reasoning behind those recommendations

currently i am using ajax calls to pull content from a db and show the resulting pull in a div, nothing too complex but i would like to exapnd my knowledge of ajax and get into doing more complex processes
