Question

Javascript - Thickbox with a form submit

Asked by: JohnMac328

I have the example of thickbox from the example site http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/.  I am trying to get a thickbox message to pop up after a form has been submitted but all the examples I find are to click on an image.  How do I incorporate the thickbox message into a form?  I posted the form and below the thickbox example

Thanks

your hyperlink code
    <li>      <a href= "#TB_inline?height=300&width=300&inlineId=form" class="thickbox" title="Start">{$lang.trivia}</a></li>

your form add your form tags inside the below form i put bit of code there but it would be better if you put proper codes and test make sure your thickbox class works
<div id="form" style="display:none;">

            <form action="page where you want to post" method="post">

        <br />

    <br />
            <input type="text" name="name_full" style="width:150" />
        <br />

                  <input type="image" src="images/start.jpg" />
            <input type="hidden" name="next_step" value="true" />

            </form>

Here is the form I am using, how does the submit button trigger the thickbox?

<form action="includes/postEmail.cfm" method="post" id="AAform">

<input name="subscribe" type="submit"  value="GO" align="middle" />

so you are saying once someone posted the form then it should appear in thickbox class? i thought you wanted to display the form inside the thinkbox .

by: JohnMac328Posted on 2009-09-09 at 08:33:45ID: 25292361

I would like it just like the generic javascript onClick='confirm("Thanks for your email")' where the thickbox message comes up with the "Thanks for your email"

by: mattibuttPosted on 2009-09-09 at 08:57:01ID: 25292597

you want to display the form as normal page object or the form will be inside  the thickbox?

by: JohnMac328Posted on 2009-09-09 at 08:58:48ID: 25292619

The only thing that will be thickbox is the message, once ok is clicked it closes and back to the web page which is part of a CMS system

by: mattibuttPosted on 2009-09-09 at 09:37:24ID: 25293000

if the form doesnt refresh the page then you can use javascript to hide other divs and display the confirmation message in the thickbox class basically calling it as a block on the basis of form submission

by: JohnMac328Posted on 2009-09-09 at 09:39:43ID: 25293020

It does refresh the page to remove the email that was entered.

give your input an id:

<input id="myButton" alt="#TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Message Box Title" class="thickbox"/>

and to trigger the thickbox use:
document.getElementById("myButton").click();

On another note, you may find Impromptu easier to use:
http://trentrichardson.com/Impromptu/index.php

Two questions, first when I click into the text field to enter the email the thickbox comes up before the submit button has been clicked and where does the thickbox message come from?  The box is empty of course.  I need to put a myOnPageContent message somewhere.

      <input name="Email" id="myButton" type="text" size="12"  value="Your Email" onFocus="this.value=''" align="middle" alt="##TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Message Box Title" class="thickbox"/>

by: JohnMac328Posted on 2009-09-09 at 10:09:44ID: 25293364

I fixed the message display, how do I keep it from popping up when the text field is entered?

by: JohnMac328Posted on 2009-09-09 at 10:18:59ID: 25293474

I moved it to the button and it works except the page won't refresh (remove the email).  Here is how I have it now

<form action="includes/postAAEmail.cfm" method="post" id="AAform">
				<span>Subscribe to the Advisor Alert: </span>
	<input name="Email" id="myButton" type="text" size="12"  value="Your Email" onFocus="this.value=''" align="middle" />
					&nbsp;&nbsp;
					<input name="AAsubscribe" type="submit"  alt="##TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Newsletter" class="thickbox" document.getElementById("myButton").click(); value="GO" align="middle" />
				</form>

I was expecting you to have a "hidden" button and click it as needed to trigger the plugin. The fact that you are relying on these "hacks" is a clear indication that this is not the ideal plugin for you. I strongly suggest you consider the Impromptu plugin.

	<form action="includes/postEmail.cfm" method="post" id="AAform" onsubmit="return showThickbox(this)">
		<input name="Email" type="text" size="12" value="Your Email" onFocus="this.value=''" align="middle" />
		<input name="subscribe" type="submit"  value="GO" align="middle" />
		<input id="myButton" type="hidden" alt="#TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Message Box Title" class="thickbox"/>
	</form>

I would if I could, still doesn't bring up thickbox.

by: hieloPosted on 2009-09-09 at 10:52:17ID: 25293816

>>input name="AAsubscribe" type="submit"  alt="##TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Newsletter" class="thickbox" document.getElementById("myButton").click(); value="GO" align="middle" />

You cannot call document.getElementById("myButton").click(); like that. You need to use an event handler like onclick:

<input name="AAsubscribe" type="submit"  alt="##TB_inline?height=300&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent" title="Newsletter" class="thickbox" onclick='document.getElementById("myButton").click();' value="GO" align="middle" />
