Alternate way to get json into php array other than json_decode()

Hello,
The external json I'm working with (I have no control over its structure) is formated like this

{name:"value",name2:"value2",name3:"value3"}

json_decode() doesn't work because you must have double quotes around the name. Is there another suitable way to get this object into PHP?
