The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Script for reading selected text in field and selecting text between open and close tag.

I am trying to make an enhanced cms and am trying to make the text entry sections a bit smarter.

I'd likea routine such that a person can highlight a piece of text they have written and select it to be body text, h3 / h4, bold, italic or strikethrough.  I'll style the selected text in the field accordingly, in realtime.  I haven't checked out styling in a text field but assume its possible.  The reading of selected text I have seen elsewhere.

I then need to allow the user to click on the text field and the routine to read the position of the cursor and (this is the tricky bit) select the text beween the nearest open tag (to the left) and close tag (to the right) if indeed the cursor is between anything other than the textarea tags.

A public domain script I could modify would be the lazy option, but I am open to any help on this.  The CRUCIAL part of this question I suppose is whether it is possible or not to select a portion of the innerHTML of the text area and have it selected without the user needing to select it (beyond clicking within it).  Otherwise I would have thought I'd have to fake a text field and do all the above with live javascript calls and styles to a container rather than using form objects at all...

I hope the above makes sense.  If Anything needs explaining I'd be glad to make myself clearer!
