jQuery to limit data in input field

Hi all,

I know that I can set a character limit on an input field.

However, is it possible to limit the input by number of words??

So I want an input field that has a limit of 15 words. But at the same time I don't to end up with 15 words that are each 200 characters long.

Any help on this would be great.

For that you will have to write a custom js validation on the input filed.

Any suggestions on how to go about this??

I know basic javascript. How would you advise writing such a custom validation??

What would I check for?? What would be the best way to go about it??

Here's one way to do it.

var str = 'this is a test string';
 
if(str.split(/\s+/).length > 15) {
  alert('you have exceeded the limit of 15 words.');
}
if(/\S{51}/.test(str)) {
  alert('Please use words that are shorter than 50 characters.');
